Grand Staircase of Honor, Royal Palace of Caserta

The counter-vault was used to accommodate musicians, whose job was to play as guests arrived at the court. The fresco by Girolamo Starace (1730-1794) depicts the Palace of Apollo and it is surrounded by four medallions showing the Four Seasons.
