(It's a travesty if your child has just a sandwich, apple, and chips like in the US.) Mothers spend time creating 'chara-ben' -- lunch with a popular character's face, using all kinds of ingredients. Preschool kids look forward to opening their lunch box, and admire each other's chara-ben.
