Osechi ryori - traditional New Year's cuisine

traditional Japanese cuisine eaten on the first few days of the New Year. Very elaborate sets contain numerous dishes placed in two or three lacquerware tray boxes (ojyu). Each dish or its name holds an auspicious meaning or wish for the New Year - health, longevity, many children, able to see the future.
