gassho-zukuri cottages and temple 白川郷の合掌造り

Unesco World Heritage site-designated mountain village of Shirakawa-go. The large front farmhouse serves as a minshuku inn taking in guests. The rear center structure is a temple. Its roof area is more elaborate, a different style of architecture from the surrounding farmhouses. Recently the village has been receiving heavy snowfall. Annually during this season (January, February) the homes are lit-up, but this event has been cancelled this year 2021 due to the coronavirus.
