camellia ikebana -- wabi sabi

To Westerners this ikebana arrangement - the vase and single stem of camellia - may appear simple and plain. But in Japanese aesthetics, the idea of wabi sabi makes simplicity and subdued atmosphere and colors preferable. You see this in the tea ceremony and traditional ikebana flower arrangement. An arrangement like this might be used during tea ceremony. (Contemporary floral arrangements by some flower artists are often more flamboyant.)
