wild turkey

The 16th-century settlers (Pilgrims) in Plimouth, Massachusetts held the first Thanksgiving feast with the local Wampanoag Native Americans to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. Although wild turkey were plentiful, it's unknown whether they actually ate turkey. Records say wild fowl, seafood, venison brought by the Wampanoag were eaten.
