The 'First' Thanksgiving feast

The first Thanksgiving feast in 1621 between the Pilgrim settlers and the Native Wampanoag tribe. The settlers arrived in 1620, and many died during the arduous winter. The following year the local Wampanoag Indians struck up a peace arrangement with the settlers, and helped them in farming and hunting. That autumn the Pilgrim Puritan fathers held a feast to glve thanks for the blessings received from God. Likely there were more Wampanoag than English. painting by Jean Louis Gerome Ferris
