Tanabata Festival falls on July 7, and is a traditional observance marking the changes in the seasons. People write their wishes or prayers on strips of colored paper and attach them to bamboo branches. Since this festival was partly derived from a practice among nobles wishing to improve their needlework or weaving, poetry, calligraphy etc., it's more appropriate to write a wish related to such manual endeavors, like calligraphy.
