Shichi - go - san at shrine

Traditional Japanese observance/ritual. Families take their 7 and 3-year-old girls and 5-year-old boys to Shinto shrines to give thanks and pray for the continued health and well-being of their children. The children are dressed in formal traditional attire: girls in colorful kimono, boys in hakama (long skirt-like garment). Small children also have a squarish over-apron. Mothers will dress in formal kimono or dress, fathers in suits (in this case, traditional hakama for portrait).
